Shoreline Sailing Club . ES Hands-On Training ยท Member Education Series Thursday, May 21, 2026 Registration 3:00 pm 3:15 – 6:15 pm. Join fellow members for an afternoon of practical seamanship. Four focused 45-minute sessions covering essential skills every sailor and first mate should know — from radio protocol to emergency preparedness and anchoring. Course Sessions Radio Etiquette VHF radio protocol, proper channel use, distress calls, and communicating with the Coast Guard and marinas. Say the right thing at the right time. Basic First Aid Marine-specific first aid, including hypothermia, seasickness, lacerations, and emergency response when professional help is far away. Knots & Anchoring Essential knots every sailor must master, plus anchoring techniques, scope calculations, and best practices for overnight anchoring. First Mate & Crew: Boating safety and etiquette Roles and responsibilities of the first mate and crew — provisioning, assisting the skipper, managing the crew, (what skippers and captains expect), and taking command if needed. The Shoreline Sailing Club is celebrating 40+ years of sailing and social fun on the Connecticut shoreline for active single adults, 35 and over. While our seasonal focus is to match skippers who seek crew to go sailing and boating, we are a very social group that enjoys many activities throughout the year, even when the winter months prevent us from enjoying boating activities. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month. First meeting for non-members is free if there is not a speaker. After the 1st free meeting there is a $10 charge unless you join.
